Art of the World Gallery partnered with La Colombe d’Or Hotel in Houston for a temporary exhibition featuring the iconic monumental bronze Bird sculpture by Colombian artist, Fernando Botero. This 2011 sculpture is one of two artist editions. Botero’s depiction of the bird is often interpreted as a representation of a dove, symbolizing peace and serenity while embodying the joy of life and the power of optimism. The bird’s endearing rotundity and smooth curves give it a surprisingly sleek appearance in three dimensions, suggesting a sense of tranquility and repose rather than flight.

“Last Tango,” a black and white image of ballet dancers performing a tango-inspired dip, fills a 46-foot-tall facade panel of the ultra-contemporary new Residences at La Colombe d’Or, a 34-story apartment and boutique hotel tower on Montrose Boulevard. The redevelopment project itself expresses a kind of “it takes two to tango” sensibility, since the new high-rise is connected at the hip to the graceful early 20th century mansion that held the original La Colombe d’Or Hotel and Restaurant.
